LULU DK

I seem to always have the hardest time finding good geometric fabrics- I swear they just don't exist! Every fabric store has tons and tons of traditional fabrics but most don't cater to my younger clients who seem to most always want a stylish, more modern look. I discovered Lulu DK (who have been around since 1998)- they have a great assortment of geometric fabrics. Regretfully, they do not have a showroom in Dallas- we are crossing our fingers that one day they will open one here!

Artist Brooke Hagel

As you can see, Material Girls recently got a fabulous new blog header- all thanks to the incredibly talented artist, Brooke Hagel. Brooke was such a joy to work with and we had a great time coming up with ideas for our "Marie Antoinette" inspired illustration. I was so pleased with the outcome and couldn't wait to tell everyone else about Brooke and show some of the other outstanding illustrations she has done!

But first, a little background on her: She's been an artist ever since she could pick up a pencil! Brooke graduated from New York's Fashion Institute of Technology where she majored in fashion design, although her main focus throughout school was wardrobe and costume design. She also attained internships with Cynthia Rowley, Sex and the City, and Saturday Night Live. Since graduating (in June 2003) she has worked as a wardrobe supervisor for off-Broadway, as a Freelance Photo Stylist and Illustrator, and a Product Designer. She currently lives in Manhattan and loves working on her Etsy shop in her spare time! Click on the Etsy link to view and buy some of Brooke's prints!

You can commission Brooke to draw you in your wedding dress-what a wonderful and unique idea for a wedding portrait or a great gift for a bride!

Some of her other fashion illustrations that we love!

Whether it's a big event like a wedding, a birthday, anniversary, or simply just a night out on the town, why not get Brooke to commemorate you in that special dress!

Dazzling Decor

I met with a client the other day and mentioned to him that in my opinion, every room should have at least one element of sparkle. It just gives the room a little bit of glitz and glamour. Since metallics are so trendy this year, finding a sparkling piece to put in your home is quite easy. Whether it's a mirror, lamp, side table, or vase- these pieces of home decor can add shimmer and excitement to any room.

Crate and Barrel Catalogue- I love these mirrors- they look great in a series over a table like this one, sofa, or even a bed. These mirrors give the blank white wall a bit more life and dimension-not to mention, they would be great to use in a small space to give the illusion of a bigger room.

Ad for Grace Home Furnishings-I saw this ad in House Beautiful and had to tear it out. This would be my ideal bedroom if I could choose one. Coupled with deep chocolate brown and icy blue, the two small chests used as nightstands look so chic and glamorous in this room.

Brocade Home Catalogue- Simply hanging a crystal chandelier in your room, will give you that extra bit of shimmer.

West Elm Catalogue- The glass and metal table breaks up all of the wood in the dining chairs. It also adds in sleek, clean lines next to chairs that have a more complex wooden geometric design. I love when opposites are paired together. The two sunburst mirrors on the wall also add in some more shimmer without going overboard.

Elle Decor Magazine - Your sparkle element doesn't always have to be silver- it can be gold too! Yellow paired with black, grey, and white is very in style right now. Instead of opting for all the shimmer elements to be either gold OR silver- the designer chose to do a little bit of both- gold lamps paired with a small silver piece of art on the table's shelf.

The Dallas Morning News- Another great way to make your sparkle element really stand out is to paint the background that is sits on. Here they painted the Dining Room walls a bright turquoise and laid the fabulous mosaic mirror against it.

Here are some affordable pieces below with sparkle that can take your space from simple to stunning!

Pottery Barn- The Bold and The Beautiful!

Just received the Pottery Barn catalog in the mail and their new Spring line consists of bright, bold colored paint, furnishings, and accessories. This catalog proves that yellow will in fact be everywhere this year. We have never been so happy to receive a Pottery Barn catalog. I love bright colors (my living room is currently pink and green) so when I saw that Pottery Barn had replaced dark fall colors with uplifting and cheery Spring colors, I about jumped for joy.

This wall color came from Pottery Barn's new paint collection (28 new colors designed just for them by Benjamin Moore) The color shown here is Semolina.

We love this mixing of the traditional with the unexpected. These Queen Anne chairs painted in bright unexpected colors add a bit of whimsy to an otherwise traditional dining set.

This bathroom is incredible- I feel like I am in Hawaii just looking at its walls! What an incredibly soothing color scheme they have developed here.

Such cute tableware- I can see these at a summer outdoor barbeque.

Add a splash of color to your living room or bedroom with one of these fun, colorful lamps.

The floral pillows against the crisp white couch almost gives off the vibe of a vacation home.

What a great way to add a wide spectrum of colors to a neutral Living Room.

Yellow just seems to put me in the best mood. My favorite part about this Dining Room is the way they arrranged the plates on the wall- very unique!

Just thought I would share these pillows with you- they are adorable in person and are on sale for $39! I especially love the green one.

How would you like to wake up to the site of this fabulous Lucy alarm clock- retails at only $32! What a cute gift this would make!

Perfect Purse Agenda

Material Girls have to keep their calendars up-to-date, wish lists on hand, and all those pesky post it notes organized! It is very beneficial to have one central place to write everything down (dimensions of that mirror you are eyeing, best friend's wedding shower date, etc.) I stumbled upon this agenda by whoMi in the Container Store last year, and it definitely helped control the chaos. I prefer the smaller size because it fits nicely in my purse. It is offered in several different patterns...buy it here.

The Macbeth Collection

It was love at first sight when I found out about http://www.themacbethcollection.com/
On their website they quote "beauty is in the eye of the beholder...we can help with the holder". I don't know about you, but organizing is one of my secret passions. Imagine how excited I got when I found out that everything they sell helps make organizing a little bit more attractive and fun!

These decorative and efficient storage options will sure have you wanting to start your Spring cleaning a little bit early this year!
