It Is Almost 2009..How About A New White Clean Slate?

I am enamored with the latest Metropolitan Home edition.  It is white all over the place!  Clean and fresh and gorgeous.  The issue comes at us from all over the design palette of white inspired interiors.
Beginning with "Glamorous White," we see grand gestures and a cleansing palette for a Seattle home by Stuart Silk Architects.
Next is "Country White," which features a quirky home in the heart of Napa Valley decorated by Erin Martin for a pair of Toronto transplants.  Hey!  I have those "Bobo" light fixtures in my own home!  So much for the idea that we in the design world have any truly original ideas.
After country comes "Traditional White," with a Daryl Carter inspired loft giving all sorts of new thoughts for a fresh start with the melding of antiques and modern furnishings.  He is one of my design heroes.  Not everyone can fuse these two ideas with such aplomb.
Not to be forgotten is "Architectural White," poised in the hills of Columbia County, New York designed by the married partners of the NYC firm Leven Betts Studio Architects. Such sublime design without a hint of fussiness.
The breathtaking beauty of the "Classic White" feature is a home located in Litchfield, Connecticut where a creative couple enlarged a cape style home into a year round vision filled with antiques and photographs-ranging from Lartigue to Annie Liebowitz.  Divine!
May I just add one more image that makes me happy this time of year?  An image of almond crescent cookies along with the recipe by Chef Sara Jenkins.  I am not over this serious season of eating yet...and they are white!!!!

Time Well Spent

So I know you're all dying to find out what I ended up getting my friend as a Christmas/Housewarming gift. I went with the chrome clock I found at Yu Interiors! They loved it and it looks great in their dining room on dramatic red walls.

It was a bit over my budget, but I think well worth it. My husband and I actually spent Christmas at their place and had ourselves quite a nice time!

Hot Color Combo

I keep seeing aubergine and teal/blue put together and I'm loving this dramatic color combo.

It's so elegant and luxe...a little feminine without being too girly.

The most recent spotting was in the January Elle Decor issue.

Are you loving it as much as I am?

Holiday Lights

The streets of Beverly Hills come alive during the holidays with all the beautiful decorations. From the storefronts to the hotel facades to the street lamps. Here is a glimpse of just a few of the many holiday lights throughout the streets of Beverly Hills.

Drake's done it again!

My hero= Mr. Jamie Drake...his interiors are positively flawless, extremely invigorating, and certainly vibrant. A man whose color infused room designs never go unnoticed- especially by design enthusiasts, bloggers, and national design publications. With clients including NY's Mayor Bloomberg, well, I think it's safe to say that Jamie has "made it"!

I was most recently stunned by his spread in this month's Elle Decor...

While Alessandra Branca is the "queen of red", Jamie could certainly be the "king of lavendar". I am no stranger to color myself. It is hard for me to do a room in all neutrals- which is why I admire Jamie's work so much.

He is not afraid of bright, fun hues and his rooms surely depict this.

I can't take my eyes away from the piece of art over the sectional (painted by Dan Christensen)- so simple but so moving! This attention-grabbing den is located in the Manhattan residence of two art enthusiasts. Jamie had almost a completely clean slate to work with (with the exception of fabulous art pieces that the client previously owned- not a bad deal I must say! I love all of their art).

A marble top table sits upon a rug designed by Jamie himself. The rug's unique color palette connects to all of the other textiles and upholstery in the room.

Different shades of violet are spread throughout this master bedroom- and it isn't complete of course, without lively punches of coral accents.
Does anyone know where the bedroom's desk is from? Not that I am going to rush out and get it or anything (!!) but it's just such a sight- lucite legs with a clean white top...what a blissful space!
Researching Jamie, I came across even more rooms of his that I never knew who the designer was. Turns out, a lot of my favorite rooms are in fact, Jamie's!

And to all a GOOD NIGHT!

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays everyone!

I had such a nice Christmas this year- got to spend Christmas Eve in Athens with the boyfriend's parents and then came back to Dallas today to finish up the rest of the festivities with my family.

{Harry, their family dog, all ready to celebrate....}

It was so wonderful seeing those I had not seen in a while, eating a ton of terrific food, and getting a tad bit of R&R in among all the Christmas chaos.

Watched the infamous "A Christmas Story" movie (a MUST over the holidays- actually TBS plays it for 24 hours straight so it is pretty hard to miss!)

Remember this lamp? Hideous or hilarious? Or both?

One of my favorite gifts was the Domino Book of Decorating. I know, I know, I'm a little behind the other bloggers who posted about this fabulous book months ago...but I wanted to wait it out until Christmas so I could look forward to it as one of my gifts! (and I can't tell you how many times I went into Borders since its debut, eyeing this book wanting to rip it open and read it cover to cover) It has gotten so much hype in the blogging world, that I wanted so badly to see what everyone has been talking about.

Did not disappoint one bit! I read it cover to cover in one sitting. It really does have some great room pics, creative home ideas, and I for sure learned things that I hadn't known before!

It is a great reference for designers and homeowners alike. One of the perks of purchasing the book is that it comes with a free subscription to Domino! (perfect timing since mine was up in December anyways!)

Before Christmas officially ends in a couple of hours, I wanted to send you all this link to Valorie Hart's home all decorated for Christmas- she writes the popular blog, Visual Vamp.

She used non-traditional Christmas colors to decorate (which I LOVE) and pillows "wrapped" in ribbons! Can she be any cuter, seriously?

Yu Like?

I just returned from some last minute shopping and while I'm thawing out I thought I would share some images from a great furniture and accessories store in my hood. It's called Yu Interiors and it's stocked with a wonderful mix of vintage and modern goodies.

Here's a look of some of what I found:

Great furniture pieces including these cute little side tables.

Various shelves and tables throughout the store with a mix of accessories from glass to ceramic to wood.

I LOVED these wall clocks! They're reminiscent of the Nelson Wall Clock but not as pricey.

This little cracked ceramic piece would look so cute with a flower or some greenery sprouting out of the top.

And my favorite piece, this gorgeous vase covered in ceramic rose buds!

So if you need some last minute gifts and you're in Brooklyn stop by Yu Interiors in Fort Greene. There's something for everyone! (And everything is 20% off right now!!)
