Without Further Ado...

I got a lot of really awesomely bad entries for my "Ugliest Bathroom Contest."  It was a tough decision, but you really can't beat big game "Out of Africa" wallpaper paired with brown plumbing fixtures.

John-Clark Brown, the winner of the contest, said he did not attach any inspiration pictures because a prison cell would be better than what he has.  I can't say I disagree, I mean at least you'd get a stainless toilet.

A close-up of the lively wallpaper.

Now the Design...

The first thing I went to for inspiration was a cheerful (not fearful) wallpaper.  It was important for me to show that wallpaper shouldn't make you feel like prey in your own bathroom.  The pattern I chose is "Damask" from Walnut Wallpaper. I kept the fixtures classic in case they are a little scarred by the current Jumanji-esque paper and the yellow and white was a little too bold.

For the floor I chose a basket weave by Michael Smith for Ann Sacks.

I like a white tile with beveled edges for shower walls.

.
Ballard Designs' "Bradford" Mirror ties in the black on the floor and keeps the room crisp.
The bathroom is very small, leaving no room for sconces on both sides of the mirror, so I had to use of own my favorite lights, the Simple Scallop fixture from Circa.

Williams Sonoma Home's Greek Key Towels keep with the "clean and classic" vibe.

I chose the Strande Faucet and Fittings on sale from Restoration Hardware because I liked the crystal levers (I gotta have my touch of glam).
Last but not least, the vanity is the Clermont Vanity by Kohler.

Hopefully John-Clark and his wife will be pleased with my selections, I can't wait to hear!

Wow. What a change this will make! I wouldn't go in there without a Safari guide (and I might shoot the brown fixtures).

I especially love that Michael Smith basket weave tile for the floor. The mirror and the scalloped light fixture do look like they should be married. Wonderful!

I used the same Strande faucet for my shower and sink...also have the basketweave marble floor. The glass facuet handles are a challenge to keep clean, but it seems to be worth the effort.
