The Swank Lighting / Material Girls Design contest has ended and the judges are busy studying the great entries. The winner will be announced on Saturday, November 15th.
Until then we have randomly chosen entries to publish every day or so. These entries will be published simultaneously on Swank Lighting Blog and Material Girls Blog. Emily, Lauren and I have no input in the judging process and we will not even hear from the judges regarding the first round of balloting until Sunday, November 9th. We will then share each judges individual scores with all four judges and instruct them to collaborate and come up with a consensus. They are to report back to us with the three winners on Friday, November 14th.
We have had so much fun running this contest and we can’t wait for you to see all the great entries and final results. We want to thank all of the wonderfully talented individuals who worked so hard on their entry. Trust me you are in for a treat when you see them.
Here is the first installment in the series of entries...

This is Blair Waldorf's first apartment, which she decorated herself. Without even realizing it, she created a road map to her own personality. The items she chose are strong, even harsh in their designs - not necessarily the kinds of pieces that "play well with others." The colors she chose challenge visitors rather than soothe or welcome them. Blair has taken care of her own comfort, but little or no thought has been given to the comfort of anyone else who may visit the room. Yet the space displays sophistication and style. Blair is also highly intelligent, which explains her attraction to the mathematical aspects of the polyhedron sculpture and the side table.
